Wowza names GoCoder SDK App Challenge winner

Wowza Media Systems has designated Spree application, created by Above Rocks, as the grand prize winner of the GoCoder SDK App Challenge, the company said.

The Spree app was selected for its use of live streaming to create a new class of applications. As the winner, Above Rocks will receive a cash payment of US USD5,000 along with a license to the Wowza GoCoder SDK.

The Wowza GoCoder SDK App Challenge drew interest from more than 200 mobile developers around the world. The top contest submissions made impressive implementations of VR/360° streaming, live event streaming and mobile journalism.

The grand prize winning Spree is a unique digital shopping experience for iOS, using live streaming to create and curate unique content from leading style bloggers and influencers, and allow for one-click purchasing via Apple Pay.

The GoCoder SDK greatly reduces development time with a cross-platform API to simplify capturing and streaming live video and audio with mobile apps. Submitters to the contest were required to present a working mobile software application that used the Wowza GoCoder SDK to stream to Wowza Streaming Engine software or the Wowza Streaming Cloud service.

Wowza Media Systems reduces complexities of video and audio delivery to any device. Wowza was founded in 2005, is privately held, and is headquartered in Colorado.
