Volaris announces 25% passenger traffic increase for January 2017

During January 2017, Controladora Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A.B. de C.V. (Volaris) (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR) increased total capacity, as measured in available seat miles (ASMs), by 25.6% year over year, the airline said.

Total demand, as measured in revenue passenger miles (RPMs), in January 2017 increased 23.0% year over year, reaching 1.4 billion. Volaris transported a total of 1.5 million passengers during the month, an increase of 24.7% year over year.

In January 2017, Volaris increased domestic and international ASMs by 20.5% and 37.3%, respectively. Network load factor for January was 84.1%.

Volaris is an ultra-low-cost carrier, with point-to-point operations, serving Mexico, the United States, and Central America. Since beginning operations in March 2006, the airline has increased its routes from five to more than 161 and its fleet from four to 69 aircraft. It offers more than 332 daily flight segments on routes that connect 40 cities in Mexico and 75 cities in the United States and Central America.
