University of Warsaw picks Huawei for large scale, high performance analytics

Huawei said it will deliver a high performance computing (HPC) cluster for Apache Sparkâ„¢ to Poland´s University of Warsaw Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM).

Huawei and the University of Warsaw agreed that the HPC cluster for Apache Spark will be installed at ICM´s new data centre facility in Warsaw, and will be among the largest installations for Apache Spark in Europe, comprising of more than 8,000 CPU cores, 43TB of aggregate RAM and 8PB of internal disk space.

The new HPC cluster is an integral part of ICM´s OCEAN Project for data and analysis and will be used by the Polish scientific community. Huawei will provide equipment to address the most demanding Big Data challenges of computation sciences, and will be used in the fields of earth sciences, medicine, health care, transportation, logistics, public safety, social sciences, as well as networking and information technology.

This project will be the second HPC delivery by Huawei to ICM this year. In the first quarter of 2015, Huawei delivered a 250 node HPC cluster.
