British point of care systems provider Hospedia Ltd said on Monday it had acquired local patient flow and bed management software specialist ExtraMed Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
Hospedia’s chief executive Tim Weil said that the combination of the company’s platform, software, expertise and geographic footprint and ExtraMed’s software will result in potential annual savings of some GBP150m (USD233m/EUR191m) for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). The transaction is also expected to save clinical professionals time, Weil added.
Thanks to the acquisition, Hospedia will be able to offer additional clinical support services at the point of care via the existing bedside systems, which is in line with the recently unveiled information strategy by the British government.
The target company’s patient flow management system for emergency and in-patient care will allow hospitals to enhance clinical coding, boost care pathway management as well as to schedule discharge activities more reliably.
ExtraMed was established in 2002 and is based in Scotland. The company said that the acquisition is a significant event for the company, which will allow access to its software directly at the point of care.
Hospedia offers point of care systems in healthcare, including media, information, clinical support software and infrastructure services.
