US trade union The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said that its airline division and representatives of Republic Airways (NASDAQ: RJET) held talks in Washington DC last week.
According to the union, the meeting was described as positive and productive, and both sides agreed to bring in a private mediator to help them reach a new collective bargaining agreement for the pilots represented by the Teamsters.
Republic Airways and The Teamsters are currently working to find a date to meet again as soon as next month. Details for the next round of negotiations, including a date and location, will be released by the end of October.
The Teamsters airline division represents about 80,000 workers in all segments of commercial aviation, including pilots and flight attendants. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded in 1903 and represents more than 1.4m men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
