Skyhook names CEO

Skyhook, an independent location platform, has appointed Craig Waggy as chief executive officer, following a move where Skyhook and its parent company, True Position, began operating as a single business, the company said.

Additionally, the company has named Karl Holzthum chief sales and marketing officer.

Waggy has more than 20 years of experience serving technology companies. He joined TruePosition in 2005, serving as its executive vice president of finance and administration from 2005 to early 2014 when he was appointed CEO. Prior to TruePosition, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of OpenTV Corp and Liberty Broadband Interactive Television.

In his new role as chief sales and marketing officer, Holzthum is responsible for continuing the expansion of the domestic and international growth of Skyhook in the advertising and device markets, overseeing direct and indirect sales and general management. Prior to joining Skyhook, Holzthum was the president of cloud-based customer engagement platform provider Nexxphase, which he co-founded.

According to Pew Research Center, 90 percent of US smartphone owners use location services on their phones, and that number is expected to rise with increased smartphone adoption. As a unified company with more than 350 patents, Skyhook plans to continue to deliver precise location services to the growing device and Internet of Things (IoT) space via its global location network. Skyhook is also building on its precise positioning and contextually rich, actionable location data to help brands, ad agencies and app publishers markets better understand buyer behaviors.
