Rivada´s patented Open Access Wireless system (also known as “dynamic spectrum arbitrage” or DSA system) allows network operators to make better use of their telecommunication resources, including radio frequency spectrum resources, the company said.
For example, Rivada´s system allows network operators to allocate or lease-out unused radio frequency spectrum during times of low congestion or use.
To accomplish this, the Open Access Wireless system enables wireless devices that subscribe to one wireless network to access and use the excess telecommunication resources of another wireless network on a dynamic basis. The Open Access Wireless system monitors the usage of the leased resources by the wireless devices, and automatically charges the relevant networks for the usage of the leased resources. The Open Access Wireless system also adjusts the subscriber´s quality of service (QoS) based on policy rules in real time.
Rivada was granted US Patent No. 8,934,439 in 2015 for its updates to the Open Access Wireless system that allows two networks to negotiate a resource leasing scheme for a use of the telecommunication resources, with or without human intervention. After negotiating the lease, the Open Access Wireless system automatically coordinates the inter-network handover of mobile devices based on one or more geographic boundaries defined in the resource leasing scheme.
More recently, Rivada was awarded US Patent Nos.: 9,338,704 and 9,775,088, which protect Rivada´s solutions for intelligently identifying and selecting the wireless devices that are best suited for accessing the wireless resources based on their geographic location.
Rivada was also awarded US Patent Nos.: 9,467,843 and 9,774,666, which protect Rivada´s innovative solutions for managing and supporting the mobility of wireless devices between wireless networks during the inter-network handovers as they move with respect to telecommunication resources.
In addition, Rivada was awarded US Patent Nos.: 9,813,924 and 9,357,469, which protect Rivada´s technologies for using a grid-map defining a lease area to monitor the movements and locations of wireless devices with respect to the telecommunication cells, and intelligently determining whether to allow access and/or initiate inter-network handover operations based on the movements and locations of wireless devices.
