NII Holdings names president of Nextel Brazil

NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: NIHD) said that Francisco Tosta Valim Filho has been appointed as President, Nextel Brazil, effective August 25, 2015.

Valim will be employed by Nextel Telecomunicacoes Ltda., the company´s Brazilian operating subsidiaryr. He will be responsible for leading the company´s day-to-day operations in Brazil. He replaces Gokul Hemmady, who has served as president, Nextel Brazil since 2013.

Prior to joining Nextel Brazil, Valim was Chief Executive Officer of Via Varejo, one of the largest electronic and furniture retailers in Latin America, from 2013 to 2014. From 2011 to 2013, Valim served as Chief Executive Officer of Oi S.A., one of the largest integrated telecom operations in Brazil with both wireless and wireline operations throughout the country.

Separately, the company announced the appointment of Robert A. Schriesheim, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sears Holding Corporation, to its board of directors filling a vacancy on the seven member board that was created when the company emerged from bankruptcy in June. Schriesheim was also appointed as Chair of the Audit Committee of the board of directors.
