NASA selects head of human spaceflight office

NASA has announced it has appointed commercial crew program manager Kathy Leuders to head the Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) Mission Directorate, the administration said.

Lueders directed commercial cargo resupply services to the International Space Station and later managed NASA´s efforts to send astronauts to the ISS on private spacecraft, leading to the successful Demo-2 Crew Dragon launch from Kennedy Space Center on May 30.

The National Space Society was founded in 1987 via a merger of the National Space Institute, founded by NASA´s Wernher von Braun, and the L5 Society, based on the work of space settlement pioneer Gerard K. O´Neill.
