Hawaii News Now has reported Mokulele and Makani Kai, two local Hawaiian airlines, have merged operations to result in new direct inter-island flight services, the news source said.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, Mokulele, which is owned by Southern Airways, had a daily flight count of 108 in Hawaii before it had to make drastic changes to stay operational.
The schedule reduced to 54 flights per day to maintain service to one of its nine cities throughout the island.
The merger will allow for a new route — a direct flight from Honolulu to Lanai.
That new non stop Lanai route is scheduled for June 28.
