Inmate calls to friends/family surge on Christmas Day

Civil and criminal justice technology solutions Securus Technologies reported all-time records set for audio and video calling on Christmas Day 2016 versus 2015, the company said.

The term VoIP specifically refers to the provisioning of communications services (voice, fax, SMS, voice-messaging) over data networks, rather than via the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The steps and principles involved in originating VoIP telephone calls are similar to traditional digital telephony and involve signaling, channel setup, digitization of the analog voice signals, and encoding. Instead of being transmitted over a circuit-switched network, however, the digital information is packetized, and transmission occurs as IP packets over a packet-switched network.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and serving more than 3,450 public safety, law enforcement and corrections agencies and over 1,200,000 inmates across North America, Securus Technologies is committed to serve and connect by providing emergency response, incident management, public information, investigation, biometric analysis, communication, information management, inmate self-service, and monitoring products and services in order to make our world a safer place to live.
