India approves purchase of US helicopters for armed forces

India´s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has announced the approval of a USD 3.5bn defense expenditure to purchase 24 Sikorsky MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopters for the Indian navy and six Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters for the army, the government said.

The Indian Navy will replace its 15 remaining Westland Sea King naval helicopters.

Forbes Magazine reported The Indian Air Force has received 17 of 22 AH-64Es on order. The deal also includes four Longbow radars, and 470 Stinger and Hellfire missiles.
