How to move around in The Netherlands in 2020/2021

This year has been a year most of us have never experienced before. From schoolkids to young adults and from start-ups to big corporations. We have dealt with ups and many downs  during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Who would have ever thought that visiting a friend or family member at home would be considered irresponsible and that leaving the country would be banned if it is not an essential journey. Though New Zealand and China seem to have Covid-19 under control, if not all, most European countries are battling the virus as if it started yesterday.

Car rental or public transport

Those who currently are in The Netherlands, do not have to rely on public transport. Whether you arrive at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam or Eindhoven Airport, there are many ways for you to move around the country without acting inappropriate or neglecting the Dutch law. The following is a variation of the most pleasant way of moving around to the most risky form of travel currently in The Netherlands:

  1. Rent a car at Eindhoven Airport: Renting a car is the most responsible way of traveling within the country. You do not get in contact with many people and also during the car rides, you will not bother anyone. Another advantage is the fact that you do not have to wear a mask during the car ride on your own.
  2. Call a friend or family member: It is still allowed to mix within another household. Therefore, the second most appropriate way of moving from A to B would be to let your friend or family pick you up and drop you off at your destination.
  3. Book an Uber or a taxi: Traveling could also be done with Uber or any other taxi. Depending on your request for a taxi, there is a possibility for another person/customer  to take the ride with you. This makes a taxi one of the least appropriate ways of traveling at the moment.
  4. Use public transport: At all times, you should interact with the least amount of people. Only in case you have no other choice, you can make use of public transport.

Essential travel only

Make sure to wear a mask and keep your distance when you are at an indoor public setting. And in case there are fellow travellers, for example when you are at the train station, but also in the train itself. To avoid all risks, make use of car rental in Holland.

It is very important to abide by the law as the consequences could be life-threatening for many. As Europeans we should be able to eventually Covid-19 in the coming months. In order to do so, we need to follow the given instructions and accept the restrictions as they are needed. This also means that we should put non-essential travel on hold until the virus is under control.
