Global Tel*Link (GTL) has completed implementation of rate and fee changes affecting inmate calling services (ICS) for millions of inmates and their friends and families, the company said.
Through these efforts, GTL has complied with new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules for ICS, are in effect nationwide for jail facilities, typically operated by county sheriff´s departments and municipal police.
GTL credits the engagement and leadership of law enforcement and state and county governments across the country who have worked in partnership with GTL during the past six months to negotiate revised ICS agreements. This initiative, including implementation for state correctional facilities in March, has ensured compliance with the new FCC rules on terms tailored to meet the unique needs and interests of each individual facility.
Elements of the FCC´s new rules, including the portion seeking to cap rates on intrastate ICS, were stayed by the US Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., earlier this spring.
Global Tel*Link is a provider of correctional technology solutions and an innovator in payment services solutions for government agencies. GTL provides service to approximately 50 percent of inmates nationwide, including service to 33 state departments of corrections.
