GoDaddy Inc. (NYSE: GDDY) has launched its Domain Connect initiative, an open API making it easier for customers to connect their domain names to their web service provider, the company said.
The company said Microsoft, Squarespace, Shopify, eNom, WiseStamp and Name.com all support the protocol.
Once enabled, customers can configure their domain to point to their web service, simplifying the process of connecting websites and domain names registered on different platforms. The company said it has published Domain Connect as an IETF international standard, so any domain or cloud/web service provider can take advantage of it, no matter their affiliation with GoDaddy.
GoDaddy is a technology provider dedicated to small businesses, with 14 million customers and 63 million domain names under management.
