Echodyne radar chosen for Northern Plains' UTM pilot program testing

Echodyne, the manufacturer of innovative, high-performance radars for government and commercial markets, has announced that it has been selected to participate in Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS) industry partnership to test and demonstrate commercial UAS operations in the next phase of DOT/FAA UAS Pilot Program (UPP) testing, the company said.

Echodyne´s MESAâ„¢ radar technology enables an Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) system to detect and track commercial drones and manned aircraft, enabling safe operations in the national airspace.

The NPUASTS UPP will focus on advanced airspace, drone, and sensor technology for safe commercial UAS operations, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), night operations, daisy-chained visual operations, higher altitude flights, and more. Echodyne radars will be primarily focused on BVLOS operations as well as supporting other testing plans.

Echodyne´s innovative high-performance software-defined radar sensors are built on patented MESA technology and provide high-resolution 3-D situational awareness data for autonomous vehicles, unmanned aircraft systems, critical infrastructure security, and smart cities. A unique blend of agile hardware and intelligent software provides unprecedented perception, safety, and reliability for machines in the autonomous age. Privately held, the company is based in Kirkland, Washington.
