Digi International chooses Altair-based module for IoT modem

LTE chipsets provider Altair Semiconductor´s CAT-1 LTE single mode chipset that powers Telit LE866 IoT module has been selected by M2M communications and technology solutions provider Digi International, Inc. (NASDAQ: DGII) for its latest Digi XBee Cellular LTE CAT-1 embedded modem, the company said.

Certified by Verizon Wireless, Digi XBee Cellular LTE CAT-1 embedded modem enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to quickly and easily integrate 4G cellular technology into devices and applications.

Based on its well-known XBee footprint, which supports multiple short and long-range wireless protocols, the XBC-V1-UT-001, is Digi´s first LTE CAT-1 single-mode modem, paving the way for additional Digi XBee modems in 2017 that will leverage new LTE Cat M1 and NB1 technologies.

Altair´s ALT-1160 CAT-1 chipset is designed specifically for IoT and M2M applications, such as wearables, vehicle telematics, smart meters and security applications. It features best-in-class power consumption, enabling battery life in excess of 10 years under specific use case conditions, and offers unique features such as enhanced security and a customizable application layer.
