Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the distributed antenna system (DAS), small cells and Wi-Fi provider that serves carriers, consumers, property owners and advertisers worldwide, has topped the list in Ookla´s latest “Fastest Airport Wi-Fi” report, the company said.
Boingo´s airport partners made up half of the top 40 US airports with the fastest Wi-Fi, with four ranking in the top five. This includes Honolulu´s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, which ranked No. 1 on Ookla´s list, Chicago Midway International Airport, Nashville International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Ookla´s rankings were based on its Speedtest Intelligence™ data that analyzed large airports during Q1-Q2 2019. Mean download and upload speeds over an airport´s Wi-Fi SSID were examined to determine winners. Boingo-branded networks, as well as the company´s white label and Passpoint Secure networks, were recognized.
Passpoint is a Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) technology that automatically connects travelers to Wi-Fi with no log-in or passwords required, much like the seamless and secure Wi-Fi experience at the home or office. Passpoint facilitates carrier offloading to Wi-Fi, alleviating pressure on cellular networks and helping carriers accommodate rising mobile data traffic.
Boingo Wi-Fi is available at more than one million hotspots around the world at places that include airports, hotels, malls, coffee shops, stadiums and more. For a simplified experience, consumers can download the Boingo Wi-Finder app, which displays Wi-Fi location maps and sends hotspot notifications to mobile devices, among other features. Boingo powers wireless connectivity with a technology-agnostic approach. Its suite of wireless solutions include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi 6, 5G, private LTE/CBRS, IoT and Passpoint.
