ATSB investigates Emirates A380 landing incident

Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has investigated an Emirates Airline incident where its Airbus A380 descended below minimum assigned altitude while on approach to land at Melbourne Tullamarine International airport, the bureau said.

The bureau´s safety investigation reports the aircraft, registered A6-EDM (MSN 42), was operating a flight from Auckland when the incident occurred. It was positioned 28 km. south of the airport at the time. The bureau said when the aircraft was cleaned for runway approach, it descended below its assigned altitude and out of controlled airspace. The controller alerted the crew and the aircraft climbed back to its assigned altitude.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is an independent Commonwealth Government statutory Agency, governed by a Commission and is entirely separate from transport regulators, policy makers and service providers.
