American Well, a leading telehealth company, today announced that it has been selected by UW Health as the health system´s telehealth partner. Later this year, UW Health will launch a new video visit service that will be powered by American Well´s telehealth services.
UW Health is the integrated academic health system associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Anchored by University Hospital in Madison, UW Health has become one of the nation´s largest organ-transplant programs; is certified as a Level 1 trauma center for both adult and pediatric patients; and includes a burn center verified by the American College of Surgeons.
The new UW Health telehealth service will offer patients ways to access care from home or work without having to visit a UW Health facility. The initial service will be available to employees of UW Health, followed by a direct-to-patient program, including on-demand and scheduled video visits. Further details of the new service, and how to access it, will be announced later this year.
With six hospitals and 80 outpatient sites, UW Health serves more than 600,000 patients each year in the upper Midwest and beyond with 1,400 physicians and 16,500 staff. UW Health is governed by the UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority and partners with UW School of Medicine and Public Health to fulfill their patient care, research, education and community service missions.
