American Airlines provides update on steps taken to address COVID-19

American Airlines has announced it has taken additional steps to address the coronavirus, the company said.

The company has implemented a new relaxed seating policy and reduced food and beverage service to help customers and team members practice social distancing.

To follow guidelines for social distancing, the airline is blocking half of all middle seats.

Additional Admirals Clubs have closed and those that remain open are practicing CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.

The airline has temporarily suspended checked pets. In-cabin pets and emotional support animals are still allowed.

Food and drink service on most flights through April 30 has been suspended to minimize onboard contact. The airline is also suspending food for sale, snacks and drinks for elite status members. Team members are offering bottled water at the gates. Limited drinks are on board for medical and emergency use.

Full service will resume once the current COVID-19 situation has passed.
