Aerojet Rocketdyne, Inc. (NYSE:AJRD) has tested its third development jettison motor for NASA´s Orion spacecraft to Mars, the company said.
The test took place at the company´s facility in Rancho Cordova, California, and the jettison motor is a critical element for ensuring astronaut safety.
The company said the jettison motor for NASA´s Orion launch abort system fired for 1.5 seconds. In the event of an emergency during launch or ascent, Orion´s launch abort system (LAS) can activate within milliseconds to propel the capsule away from danger and position the crew module for a safe ocean landing.
